To make a day of it

Burg Lösnich stands in Lösnich (Landkreis Bernkastel-Wittlich), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

Burg Lösnich was the ancestral seat of the knightly family of the same name, first recorded in 1226, though the castle itself is only documented from 1368 onward. It was built as a fortified residence in the heart of the village, close to the Moselle river, unlike the hilltop strongholds typical of the region. Destroyed amid the upheavals that repeatedly struck the valley, it survives mainly through a large cross-vaulted cellar beneath the former press house, which has since been converted into holiday apartments.

What to know

  • No standing building of the original castle remains; only a vaulted cellar survives beneath the former press house.
  • The site sits on private property at what is now Fährgasse 1 in Lösnich, opposite the old parsonage.
  • The existing building now contains holiday apartments and is not set up as a publicly accessible monument.
  • No opening hours, fees, or organised access are indicated for this site.
