Starkenburg (Burgruine) stands in Starkenburg (Landkreis Bernkastel-Wittlich), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Burg Starkenburg survives only as fragments of walls on a rocky spur above the village that bears its name, in Rhineland-Palatinate. It was for a long time the seat of the rear part of the County of Sponheim, before losing that role around 1350 when the Grevenburg took over. A count palatine was born there and died there around the turn of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, and his widow passed away at the same site some years later, showing the castle still served as a residence that late. The complex then decayed gradually into the ruin seen now.
