To make a day of it

Dasburg (Burg) stands in Dasburg (Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Burg Dasburg stands on a 356 metre hill above the village of the same name, on the banks of the Our river in Rhineland-Palatinate. Built as a ruin in the early 13th century, most likely, it long belonged to Prüm Abbey before passing to the houses of Vianden, Nassau and Orange-Nassau, a link that still gives the King of the Netherlands the title 'Lord of Dasburg'. What remains today are the foundations of the inner defensive wall, sections of the outer wall with two half-towers, remnants of the gatehouse and the north face of a twenty metre keep.

What to know

  • The visit takes place outdoors among partially restored ruins, with no known opening hours or admission fees.
  • The site sits on high ground above the village of Dasburg, close to the B 410 road.
  • In January 2012 sections of the outer wall and the round tower's foundations collapsed toward the nearby road, so caution is advised on site.
  • Since the ruin is undergoing restoration, some areas may be closed off or marked as unsafe.
  • No information is available regarding accessibility, parking or dogs.
