The Burgstall Schenkenzell sits on a rocky spur at 408 metres above sea level, south of the village of Schenkenzell. It is not a standing castle but the site of a vanished stronghold, first recorded in 1493 when it was already in ruins. The fortification likely watched over an old road passing below it. All that remains today is the earthen mound, trace of a nearly circular enclosure some twenty metres across.
