To make a day of it
Neckarburg stands in Rottweil (Landkreis Rottweil), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Recorded dating: 7th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Neckarburg is an early medieval hilltop ruin standing on a hill isolated by a loop of the Neckar river, near Villingendorf in the municipal area of Rottweil. Founded as early as the 7th century as a refuge fortress, it was later split into two separate holdings during the 14th century before being rebuilt as a three-towered castle in the late 16th century. Abandoned after the Thirty Years' War, only its enclosing walls survive today, set within a nature reserve that bears its name. Nearby stands the Michaelskapelle, which houses a painting depicting the castle in its original form.
