Perched on a rocky spur above the old town of Hornberg in the Black Forest, this site preserves what remains of a fortified residence founded around 1200 by the lords of Hornberg. Successive buildings, expanded under Württemberg rule and burned down by French troops in 1689, have left only the keep, the powder tower and scattered wall fragments standing today. The seventeen metre keep is open as a lookout tower, giving views over the town and the Gutach valley.

  • There are no confirmed opening hours or fees for the site, best checked locally.
