To make a day of it

Burgruine Rothenfels stands in Immenstadt im Allgäu (Landkreis Oberallgäu), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Burgruine Rothenfels stands on a wooded spur above the Kleiner Alpsee, near Immenstadt im Allgäu. Built in the second half of the 13th century by the lords of Schellenberg, it formed a double castle together with the neighbouring Burg Hugofels, an unusual arrangement for the region. Largely dismantled in the early 19th century for building material, it survives only as scattered remains of towers and walls, in a condition described as precarious.
