To make a day of it

Burgruine Hardeck stands in Lorbach (Wetteraukreis), in Hesse, Germany. Recorded dating: 9th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Burgruine Hardeck is a ruined hilltop fortification built between the 10th and 11th centuries, southwest of Büdingen. Today hidden within woodland, it is most notable for its substantial earthworks: a double ring of ramparts and ditches reaching seven to nine metres deep in places. Built remains are sparse, but visitors can still make out the likely site of the former hall and the foundation traces of a tower, probably a keep. The castle held a strategic position, with sightlines to Ronneburg and Glauburg castles, guarding the roads between the Main plain and the Vogelsberg.
