To make a day of it

Burg Lindheim stands in Altenstadt (Wetteraukreis), in Hesse, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

In Lindheim, a village belonging to the municipality of Altenstadt in Hesse, only scattered remnants survive of a layered history: a medieval stronghold once shared among dozens of noble families, later replaced by a baroque schloss built over its ruins at the end of the 17th century. Of both structures, little remains beyond a few fragments, including a round turret known as the Hexenturm and a small manor house, the Moller-Schlösschen, remodeled in the 19th century. The site reads less as a monument to tour than as a place of memory, tied in particular to the Austrian writer Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, who died in a wing of the schloss in 1895.
