To make a day of it

Burg Konradsdorf stands in Konradsdorf (Wetteraukreis), in Hesse, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Burg Konradsdorf was a small hilltop stronghold overlooking the Nidder river southwest of Ortenberg, built by the year 1000 at the latest. Nothing of it stands above ground today: its remains came to light only through excavations carried out between 1994 and 1996 beneath the former monastery church that later occupied the site. The dig uncovered a nearly square sandstone tower with walls over two metres thick, together with the foundations of an even older chapel set within a cemetery. Around 1190 the Kloster Konradsdorf was founded directly on and from the ruins of this fortification.
