Burg Stein, also known as Burg Zullenstein, lies near the former course of the Rhine at Biblis, in the Landkreis Bergstraße in Hesse. What remains is not a standing castle but an archaeological site: foundations uncovered within the Steiner Wald forest, bearing witness to successive occupations from Roman times through the 17th century. The remains trace a long history, from an ancient river outpost to a medieval episcopal stronghold, later destroyed and forgotten until its rediscovery in the 20th century. Visitors come here for the walk and the history rather than for standing walls.
