Burg Wendelstein stands at the northern edge of the old town of Vacha, close to the Werra river, whose crossing it once guarded. Founded in the late 13th century under the authority of the Abbot of Fulda, it retains a round tower some twenty metres high and a main residential building dating from around 1600. It now houses the Vacha town museum, notable for its collection of dolls displayed on the upper floor.
