Schloss Feldeck stands at the entrance to the Felda valley in Dietlas, part of the Krayenberggemeinde municipality near Dorndorf, in the Wartburgkreis. Originally a moated stronghold founded in the Middle Ages by Hersfeld Abbey to guard its holdings in the area, it passed through the hands of several noble families, from the Frankensteins to the Hennebergs and finally the Butlers, who owned it until being dispossessed in 1945. The keep and gatehouse were later torn down, but the main house survives and is now used as private holiday accommodation.
