To make a day of it

Burg Schenkenberg stands in Epfendorf (Landkreis Rottweil), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

Burg Schenkenberg is a ruined hilltop stronghold overlooking the Neckar valley near Epfendorf, in the Rottweil district. Raised in the thirteenth or fourteenth century by the lords Schenk von Schenkenberg, it originally consisted of little more than a residential tower and an adjoining courtyard enclosed by a thick wall. Only scant masonry remains today, and the site was already marked as a ruin on a sixteenth-century map. Visitors come chiefly for the setting itself, a nearly freestanding summit with views across several surrounding valleys.

What to know

  • No opening hours, fees or accessibility details are documented for this site, so check locally before visiting.
  • The view over the Neckar and Schenkenbach valleys is a major part of the appeal.
