Burg Schell-Pyrmont, also known as Schellenburg, is the remnant of a hilltop fortification standing at 305 metres on the Schellenberg near Bad Pyrmont. First documented in 1184, it served as the seat of the counts of Pyrmont before being destroyed between 1276 and 1284 during a conflict with the Archbishop of Cologne. The site still shows ditches, earthworks and traces of two round towers, along with an outer bailey to the north. In 1824, a lookout tower, the Schellenturm, was built at the southern corner using stone from the old fortress.
