Schloss Hastenbeck stands in Hameln, on a site that has carried a succession of fortifications and manor houses since the 13th century. The present building, erected between 1862 and 1869 by Adelbert Hotzen in neo-Gothic style, has two wings with broad gables linked by a central section and a massive stair tower. Built of red sandstone quarried nearby on the Obensburg hill, it is surrounded by a landscaped park that still holds earthworks and bastions from a 17th-century fortress. Privately owned by a descendant of the von Reden family and used as a residence, the building is not open for interior visits.
