To make a day of it

Burg Schadeck stands in Schadeck (Landkreis Limburg-Weilburg), in Hesse, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 13th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Schadeck Castle stands on a steep slope roughly fifty metres above the Lahn, facing the rival Runkel Castle it was built to oppose. Built between 1276 and 1288 by Henry of Westerburg during an inheritance dispute, it took its name from this defiant purpose. The main surviving structure, a rectangular three and a half storey building with a staircase tower, now contains private residences. Little remains of the rest of the medieval complex beyond fragments and foundation walls.
