Schloss Hadamar stands on the left bank of the Elbbach, in the centre of the town of Hadamar, on the site of a medieval stronghold once surrounded by a moat. Built as the seat of the Hadamar branch of the House of Nassau, it took on its present horseshoe-shaped form in the 17th century, with three storeys, cross-mullioned windows and Renaissance gables. The castle chapel, housed in the east wing since 1791, now serves as the church of Hadamar's Protestant congregation.
