Burg Reichenberg (Rheinland-Pfalz) stands in Reichenberg (Rhein-Lahn-Kreis), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 14th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Reichenberg rises above the Hasenbachtal on a hill 230 metres high, overlooking the village of Reichenberg. Begun in 1319 by the counts of Katzenelnbogen to guard the route linking the Rhine to Katzenelnbogen, it still shows a shield wall with casemates counted among the oldest surviving in Germany. Its semicircular three storey residential building displays column arrangements unusual for central Europe, features traced back to Crusader castles in Syria. Now a partly collapsed ruin, it lies within the UNESCO listed Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
