To make a day of it

Burg Rauheneck (Ebern) stands in Ebern (Landkreis Haßberge), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

North of Vorbach, a village within the municipality of Ebern, a rocky spur of the Haßberge hills bears the ruined remains of Burg Rauheneck. The Bramberg family raised this hill castle at the close of the twelfth century, after which it functioned as an administrative seat for the Bishopric of Würzburg until the early eighteenth century. Safety concerns had kept the site closed to the public for a long period, but stabilisation works completed in 2018 and 2019 allowed it to reopen. Amid the mixed woodlands of the Haßberge Nature Park, visitors can now explore what remains of this medieval fortress.
