To make a day of it
Burg Altenstein (Unterfranken) stands in Maroldsweisach (Landkreis Haßberge), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 13th century. Adult admission costs 4 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Near Maroldsweisach in Bavaria, the village of Altenstein gives its name to a castle perched on a ridge of the Haßberge hills. Built from the 13th century onward, it belonged to a family known as the lords of Altenstein and grew into one of Franconia's largest castle ruins. Several branches of that family once shared the site as a Ganerbenburg, and renovation efforts have since preserved what remains of its structures.
