The Alte Burg rises 150 metres above the Weisach valley in the municipality of Maroldsweisach, Bavaria. First documented in 1126, it served for centuries as the ancestral seat of the lords of Stein before passing to the barons of Rotenhan in 1895 and to the Haßberge district in 1972. Its most notable features are the massive twin-towered gatehouse and the picturesque remains of a late Gothic chapel. Since 2010 the ruin has formed part of a castle museum and offers wide views over the Haßberge hills.
