To make a day of it

Burg Moringen stands in Moringen (Landkreis Northeim), in Lower Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

Burg Moringen stands at the southern edge of Moringen's old town, on the site of a former moated castle of which little remains visible today. The only surviving castle building is the old brewhouse, a three storey rubble stone structure with a gabled roof, joined by a half timbered annex that was converted into a bailiwick prison in the 19th century. The baroque bailiff's house that replaced the partly demolished castle now serves as the town hall. A pond on the south side is the sole remaining trace of the original moat.

What to know

  • The former brewhouse building houses a local history museum.
  • The old bailiff's house now functions as the town hall and is not open as a monument.
