To make a day of it
Burg Laurenburg stands in Laurenburg (Rhein-Lahn-Kreis), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Perched on a spur of the Turmberg above the Lahn valley, Laurenburg Castle retains its five-sided keep, built in the 12th or 13th century and the only structure still standing from the fortress raised around 1090 by Count Dudo of Laurenburg, the earliest known member of the House of Nassau. The family soon moved its seat to Nassau, and the castle passed through various owners while falling into ruin. Visitors today climb an outside wooden staircase to the knights' hall, then an inner spiral stair to the viewing platform, which looks out over the village and the Lahn valley.
