To make a day of it

Burg Balduinstein stands in Balduinstein (Rhein-Lahn-Kreis), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

Castle Balduinstein is a medieval ruin perched on a rocky spur above the Lahn river, overlooking the small town that bears its name. Built in the 14th century by the Archbishop of Trier as a rival stronghold to the nearby Schloss Schaumburg, it lost its military importance as early as the 15th century and fell into decay after the Thirty Years' War. Visible remains today include sections of the outer walls, the foundations of a three-storey residential building and traces of a small corner tower, with no keep, typical of late medieval fortifications.

  • The property is privately owned, which may limit access to parts of the site.
