Burg Langeleben lies in the Elm forest near Königslutter am Elm, on the site of a small former moated stronghold. Almost nothing remains above ground except the western gable wall of a stone building, about twelve metres high, while the surrounding moat, pond and outer earthwork still trace the old castle's outline clearly. First recorded as a castrum in 1258, the stronghold passed through several noble families before being burned down in 1626 during the Thirty Years' War. It survives today as a quiet woodland ruin without visitor facilities.
