To make a day of it

Elmsburg stands in Schöningen (Landkreis Helmstedt), in Lower Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Elmsburg is a former medieval stronghold whose remains lie hidden in woodland, in the Elm range, above the village of Twieflingen. Founded in the 11th century inside a much older circular earthwork, it later housed a commandery of the Teutonic Order in the 13th century. Excavations uncovered the successive foundations of three church buildings, part of whose walls have been rebuilt to make the layout visible on site. A marked trail and information panels now guide visitors through the area.
