To make a day of it
Burg Kübelberg stands in Schönenberg-Kübelberg (Landkreis Kusel), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.
Burg Kübelberg no longer exists: it was a medieval stronghold, now vanished, that once stood on a hill near the church in the Kübelberg district of Schönenberg-Kübelberg, in Rhineland-Palatinate. Built probably in the second half of the 13th century by the lords of Kübelberg, it guarded old trade routes linking Worms to Saarbrücken and Metz, as well as a salt road toward Kusel and Meisenheim. No original remains survive on the site, as the last standing tower was demolished in the 19th century. A symbolic reconstruction of a ruin, placed in a roundabout at the entrance of the village, now recalls its memory.
What to know
- No medieval structure remains on site: the castle has completely vanished.
- Only a roundabout at the village entrance features a symbolic reconstruction recalling the former ruin.
- A 27-kilometre hiking trail, the Ritter-Gerin-Weg, follows traces connected to this history.
- There are no opening hours, fees or organised visits, as this is not a site one can tour in the usual sense.
