To make a day of it
Burg Katzenelnbogen stands in Katzenelnbogen (Rhein-Lahn-Kreis), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.
Burg Katzenelnbogen sits on a rocky plateau above the town that bears its name, in the Rhein-Lahn-Kreis. Begun in the late 11th century, it was the seat of the counts of Katzenelnbogen before passing to the landgraves of Hesse and then to the von der Leyen family, whose rebuilding after a fire gave the old stronghold the look of a manor house, visible today in its half-timbered main wing and octagonal corner turret. From the medieval fortification, a late Gothic gate tower, long stretches of the ring wall and an old well have survived, while the once densely built courtyard opened up after the 1540 fire destroyed most of it.
