Burg Camberg once stood on the highest point of Bad Camberg, exactly where the town hall stands today. Built around 1281 by Count Gerhard IV of Dietz, at the time Camberg was granted minor town status by King Rudolf I, it is thought to have replaced an older royal court. Through inheritance it passed to the House of Nassau and later to the Electorate of Trier, before being described as ruined by the late 18th century.
