Burg Kirberg stands in ruins atop an isolated rocky outcrop in the village of Kirberg, in Hesse. Built around 1355 through the joint initiative of two rival comital families, it marked the end of a territorial dispute rather than any lasting military purpose, and its decline began within the following century.
