Falkenstein Castle, also known as Neu-Falkenstein, stands in ruins on a hilltop in the Taunus range, above the Falkenstein district of Königstein im Taunus. Built in the mid-14th century by the lords of Bolanden-Falkenstein, it retains its enceinte, an 18-metre bergfried topped with a round turret, remains of buildings and two artillery towers. From the site, views open out over the Rhine-Main plain as far as Frankfurt am Main.
