To make a day of it
Burg Burgjoß stands in Burgjoß (Main-Kinzig-Kreis), in Hesse, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.
The Burg Burgjoß stands at the edge of the village of Burgjoß in the Hessian Spessart, on the site of an earlier moated castle. What stands out is the contrast between the medieval remains, a thick semicircular shield-wall tower built with rusticated stone blocks in the Staufer style, and the Renaissance buildings from the 16th century that now dominate the complex. The main residential building, erected under the Mainz prince-elector Daniel Brendel von Homburg, still bears the date 1573 and the Mainz coat of arms above its portal. A park, the Burgwiesenpark, has adjoined the castle since the 1970s.
