Burg Beverungen stands in Beverungen (Kreis Höxter), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 14th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Beverungen castle stands on the banks of the river Weser in the Kreis Höxter, once a stronghold of the prince-bishops of Paderborn. Of the 14th-century fortified complex, only a massive rectangular residential tower and the neighbouring Rentmeisterhaus remain, the surrounding walls and moat having been removed during 19th-century demolitions. Visitors can see the tower's rubble stone walls, its steep sandstone roof and timber-framed gable, a structure that passed from military use to administrative seat and eventually to municipal ownership.
What to know
- A road now cuts through the former castle grounds, dating from the construction of the Weser bridge in 1902.
- Only the residential tower and the Rentmeisterhaus survive, as the surrounding walls and moat have disappeared.
