To make a day of it
Burg Herstelle stands in Beverungen (Kreis Höxter), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Herstelle rises above the Weser valley near the Herstelle district of Beverungen. The building seen today is not medieval but dates from 1825 to 1832, when the Koblenz architect Johann Claudius von Lassaulx rebuilt it for Fernandine Heereman von Zuydtwyck in a style echoing an old fortified castle, with a round stair tower standing in for a keep and a rough stone facade recalling a palas hall. In the nineteenth century the estate drew notable guests such as Annette von Droste-Hülshoff and the Brothers Grimm. Since the Hörning family bought it in 2007, the site has gradually reopened to visitors.
