To make a day of it

Burg Altdischingen stands in Stuttgart (Stuttgart), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

Altdischingen Castle is a former hilltop fortification, now vanished, of which only ditch and rampart remains survive in the Solitude state forest near the Weilimdorf district of Stuttgart. Built largely of timber at the end of the 11th century, it was destroyed by fire during the second third of the 12th century and never rebuilt. What visitors find today is an open-air archaeological site rather than a standing building: the outline of the ditches and earthworks can still be traced in the wooded ground. The setting invites a quiet walk rather than a formal tour.
