Nippenburg stands in Schwieberdingen (Landkreis Ludwigsburg), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 11th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Nippenburg is a ruined spur castle overlooking the Glems valley southwest of Schwieberdingen. First recorded in 1160 in the Codex Hirsaugiensis, it is considered the oldest fortification in the Stuttgart region. Visitors today find the remains of a massive sixteen-metre shield wall, sections of the outer bailey and a solid Gothic barn dating from 1483. The stronghold was reportedly never captured or destroyed by force, and its gradual abandonment in favour of a nearby manor house explains the ruinous state seen today.
