Alt-Trauchburg Castle stands in ruins above the hamlet of Kleinweiler, part of the municipality of Weitnau, perched on a rocky spur in the foothills of the Allgäu Alps. Dating back to the 11th century, it is counted among the best preserved fortress ruins in the region, with substantial walls built of conglomerate stone. Visitors can still make out the old tower house, a large outer bailey, a reinforced outwork lined with round towers, and a former keep later used as a prison. The site is open for walking visits, reached by a climb from the valley below.
