To make a day of it
Archäologisches Freilichtmuseum Funkenburg stands in Westgreußen (Kyffhäuserkreis), in Thuringia, Germany. Adult admission costs 4 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Archäologisches Freilichtmuseum Funkenburg recreates, on its original site, a Germanic fortified settlement excavated between 1974 and 1980 on a prominent spur above the Helbe valley. Between 1992 and 1999 the association Funkenburg Westgreußen e.V. rebuilt part of the ramparts, including ditches, palisades, a walkway, a gate tower and a watchtower. The outer bailey houses visitor facilities, while the inner bailey contains reconstructed dwelling houses, raised granaries, storage huts and clay ovens built following ancient techniques. A visit gives a sense of everyday life in a Germanic community of the Migration Period.
