To make a day of it

Château du Pizou stands in Le Pizou (Dordogne), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

At the heart of the village of Le Pizou, in the Dordogne, stands a long main building stretching over 67 metres, erected in the early 17th century on the ruins of a medieval fortified castle destroyed during the Wars of Religion. Two monumental fireplaces that survived the earlier structure, one of them evoking Marguerite de Navarre, bear witness to this layered history. The former moat, once fed by a nearby stream and now filled in, can still be traced in the surrounding land and feeds a small waterfall. A ten-year restoration brought back the volumes and the tower the building had lost.
