Located in the commune of Passel in the Oise department, the château du Mont-Renaud stands on the site of a former Carthusian monastery founded in the early 14th century by Renaud de Rouy, treasurer to Philip the Fair. Carthusian monks lived there for centuries until the Revolution scattered the community and severely damaged the buildings. In the early 19th century, architect François-Tranquille Gauché turned the ruins into a pleasure residence, and a château was built on the site in 1818. Only the right wing remains today, rebuilt after the destruction of the First World War.
