What the French Ministry of Culture records

Du château médiéval, vraisemblablement détruit en majeure partie pendant les guerres de la Ligue, subsistent néanmoins la porte fortifiée, les caves et le soubassement probablement édifiés au début du 14e siècle ainsi que des fragments du mur d'enceinte. Quant au château actuel, il est le résultat de campagnes de construction s'échelonnant du 17e siècle, pour le corps de bâtiment sud-est (briques à harpages de pierre, sur soubassement de grès) au 19e siècle pour le corps de bâtiment nord-ouest. Les caves, vestiges du château vieux, constituées d'un grand et d'un petit celliers reliés entre eux par des escaliers, et pour la plupart voûtées en berceau, offrent un grand intérêt archéologique, puisqu'elles permettent de restituer en partie le plan de l'édifice médiéval. Quant au château neuf en dépit de l'hétérogénéité de ses parties constituantes il présente des qualités architecturales non négligeables, où le grès, la brique et la pierre révèlent une harmonieuse conjugaison, en dépit de la dissymétrie d'ensemble.
