It is best known as the birthplace of navigator Jean-François de Galaup de Lapérouse in 1741. Built of brick, the building forms three wings around a north facing courtyard, the result of successive extensions from the 16th to the 19th century. The south wing, the oldest part, still holds its spiral staircase, the last trace of the fortified house from the Wars of Religion.
