To make a day of it

Château du Diable stands in Cabrerets (Lot), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: Middle Ages). No visits are on record for this building.

On the right bank of the Célé river, at Cabrerets, the Château du Diable displays its cave dwelling ruins against the cliff face. First recorded in 1259, this fortified site passed to the Cardaillac family in the early 14th century before being transferred to the Gontaut family in 1439. The best preserved building, at the northern end of the site, dates from construction phases at the end of the 14th and end of the 15th centuries. It was abandoned once a new château was built further downstream in the early 16th century.
