The Château du Deffend stands in Montravers, in the Deux-Sèvres department, built between 1860 and 1865 to designs by the Parisian architect Delarue. Its architecture plays on contrasts of brick and stone, with two markedly different façades, one flanked by pavilions, the other by overhanging turrets. Inside, the reception rooms retain their wood panelling, fireplaces and painted ceilings, reflecting the decorative taste of the late 19th century.
