What the French Ministry of Culture records

Le château remonte au 11e siècle. De cette époque subsiste le donjon qui ne paraît pas avoir été remanié. Il fut brûlé à trois reprises. La légende le dit ancienne commanderie de Malte, ce qui est faux, mais sans doute un des seigneurs fut-il chevalier de Malte. Situé sur un promontoire dominant le Lot, l'édifice a conservé sur sa partie ouest sa silhouette médiévale fortifiée, cantonnée de tours irrégulières circulaires. L'intérieur conserve un escalier gothique en pierre, et une salle voûtée de deux croisées d'ogives dont l'une a une forme particulière afin de permettre l'ouverture de la porte voisine.
