Set on a sandstone spur above the hamlet of Waldeck, this stronghold was built at the end of the 13th century for Duke Ferry III of Lorraine to watch over the road linking Alsace to the Palatinate. It still shows a square tower with bossed masonry restored in 1900, a cistern and a large chamber cut into the rock, along with remains of its outer bailey. Since 1999 the ruins themselves have been closed off, though the site can be seen from the forest path leading up to it.
