To make a day of it

Château du Helfenstein stands in Philippsbourg (Moselle), in the Grand Est region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The Helfenstein castle stands in Philippsbourg, in the Moselle department, only a short distance from its neighbour, the Falkenstein, in whose shadow it remained unnoticed for centuries. Forgotten by local memory to the point of vanishing from maps, it was only identified as such in 1927, through the research of the local scholar Adolphe Malye. Visitors today find a set of rock-cut and masonry remains, dominated by a massive block of stone, where the outline of the former courtyard wall can still be traced.
