What the French Ministry of Culture records

Construit au 15e siècle sur une terre formant fief avec Nanvignes, le château de Villiers contrôlait l'ancienne voie romaine menant à Entrains. Propriété des Chabannes en 1496, il passe à Guillaume Tenon, trésorier de France et conseiller du roi en 1506. En 1697, le fief est érigé en marquisat en faveur de François Menou de Charnisay. Ce dernier quitte les lieux pour construire son château éponymes dans l'ancien village de Nanvignes et transforme le château de Villiers en ferme.
