What the French Ministry of Culture records
Château construit en 1777, puis modifié par Claude-Etienne Chaillou des Barres (1784-1857) , préfet de la Creuse et de l'Ardèche, ami du roi Frédéric II de Prusse et créateur d'une société savante (la société historique des sciences de l'Yonne). Celui-ci, ainsi que son gendre, transforma le château : aménagement d'une bibliothèque, construction d'une aile reliant le château à la bibliothèque, édification d'une chapelle funéraire (avec un décor en trompe-l'oeil) , aménagement du parc. Le château conserve un fonds d'archives d'intérêt local et national.
